About The Salcombe FishWife
The Salcombe Fish Wife, and her partner Malcolm, run the business together with 3 other members of staff, Kristian, Louisa and Lucy.As a team, they provide local pubs and restaurants with locally sourced fresh fish and seafood. You can also find them at the local farmers markets, where they sell the finest crab meat, whole cooked crabs and lobsters and of course the ‘must have’ crab sandwiches. Their small shop, based at Stokeley Farm Shop, Torcross, is where customers can purchase some of the finest fish caught in the waters only a stones throw away.
Claire, Malcolm and Kristian are all trained chefs and have worked in the hospitality industry for many years. With their catering backgrounds they understand the importance of providing the best quality products to the restaurants and to the general public. To ensure this quality, they only buy their fish from Brixham Fish Market,, and only choose sustainably caught fish from dayboats. The crab and Lobsters they provide are caught on a Salcombe fishing boat called Tenacious.
The Salcombe Fish Wife are famous for their crab meat, and a lot of their time is spent hand-picking hen crabs to retrieve the sweet tasting crab meat, which is in very high demand. Many well known chefs have tried their crab meat, and often question why their crab meat is so exceptional and superior to other crab meats available? The response is always the same…they only use crab caught in the warm, Salcombe Waters, they steam their crab instead of boiling them, which means the meat doesn’t get saturated with water and only cooks in its own natural juices, and every morsel of crab meat is hand picked.
